Xilinx Digilent Usb Jtag Driver

Hi all, I did a cursory search through the forum, but I mostly saw questions concerning other things about JTAG. I hope my search was thorough enough.I was wondering if anyone knows where to get USB JTAG cable drivers for Windows Vista and Windows 7 machines. The board I am using is the Virtex 6 ML605 xc6vlx240t ff1156.I've been trying this for days to no avail. Some documents provided by Xilinx say that the drivers should be on the USB Drive provided with the FPGA in a folder called 'Driversandtools', but there isn't one on mine. Also, I've noticed that the proper drivers can be installed automatically for Windows XP machines, but not for anything newer. (It isn't an option for me to just use Windows XP)I would really appreciate any help you guys have on the matter. I'd like to get going on interesting things instead of sitting here looking for drivers and testing stuff out.

The JTAG cable driver is installed with the IDS installation. I installed IDS 12.3 on a Window 7 64-bit machine recently. When I plugged the JTAG USB cable into the machine, the driver was automatically installed by the OS.The driver included with ML605 archive is for the USB to UART translation device.wrote:Hi all, I did a cursory search through the forum, but I mostly saw questions concerning other things about JTAG. That user guide seems promising. I will try it and post about how it went as soon as I can.Jimwu: It may not have occurred to you, but I have indeed installed ISEDS 12.3 on a Windows 7 64-bit machine. To my utter surprise, the cable drivers were not detected for some reason.

It is that reason for which I am searching. Also, I want to install USB JTAG driver, not the USB UART driver. It may be comforting for you to know that I have found the UART driver and am able to get that to work. I also stated in my post that the USB drive included with the FPGA does not have any drivers on it.Thanks again for your attention. Okay, I'm currently trying the linux drivers.

I got the file linked from the user guide and here's what I did:tar xvzf installdrivers.zipcd installdriverssudo./installdriversI installed fxload because it told me that I needed it as a dependency the first time. Thanks, but I've tried that link a couple of times with no success, also tried to reinstall the software both full and webpack a couple of times but non seems to work. The problem is that windows can't find a driver for the usb jtag cable even after all instalaltions that i've tried. Also tried to run the impact software with administrator privilegies and XP compatibility mode as somewhere was suggested but that didn't work either. Also tried the Virtual XP.

If Anybody got some more suggestions I would be greatful? SIGNATURE:README for newbies is here: Read the manual or user guide. Have you read the manual?

Hi every onei am a newbie and i have a problem with the chipscope.i am using 'Digilent JTAG USB Cable'problem is that during debugging i cannot observe any signal names (from my program) in chipscope.no waveform is observed only lines are shownalthough i can observe some signal changes, but transition state (edges) are never shown.for example if a signal was zero then a line appears with low state when it is one the same lineappears with high state, no transition observed. The clock oscillator on my board is also appearing as a straight line.the features of this cable does not show support for xilinx tools, but some plugins fromdigilent site enable me to make this cable work with IMPACT tool. So i can download myprogram file to PROM using this cable. But chipscope is not working good:(is there some speed issue or this cable is not supporting at all? But then why signal change is shown?also please suggest me any other cheap usb jtag cable that works good with chipscope.does 'Digilent JTAG HS1 Programming Cable' works fine?eagerly waiting for ur reply. Did you use ChipScope Core Inserter, or Core Generator and insert ILA/ICON cores manually in your code?. If you use ChipScope Core Inserter, did you import your CDC file?.

If you inserted your own ILAs, did you rename all of the signals in ChipScope Pro?I have no idea what you mean about the problem with edges, but here's a.You can't sample your system clock if you're clocking the ChipScope core with the same system clock. Think about it:. ChipScope core is triggered at the positive edge of the system clock. As requested, ChipScope samples the signal of interest, which happens to be the system clock, and finds it high (see previous point). Clock signal in waveform display appears to always be highYou can safely assume that the clock is toggling from high to low and back again at every sample point. You could sample a clock with a different (slower) speed than the system clock, but you would normally instantiate a new ILA that is clocked by the different clock.I've sometimes seen some weird ChipScope Pro display problems (particularly with fonts) that I attributed to Java incompatibilities/bugs - could this be what you're seeing?

Perhaps you could post a screenshot. Try it on a different computer. Make sure you're using a supported version of Windows for ISE and the Digilent plugin. I can confirm that we have successfully used ChipScope with the Digilent Full-speed JTAG cable. This circuitry is used on the Avnet Spartan-6 LX9 MicroBoard - The following design utilizes ChipScope to analyze the User Interface on a MIG/MCB Traffic Generator design:Support Files & Downloads - We have also used HS1 successfully with ChipScope.

Xilinx

We were using an early access version of the plug-in. I'm not sure the Xilinx Tool plug-in currently posted on the Digilent website is compatible with HS1.Bryan. Thx for your help dear joelby and bryanfirst of all i want to tell u that i was using digilent usb jtag cable with adept export tool, it was programming my prom(xcf02s) and fpga (xc3s400pq208), it is a local vendor fpga board who perhaps used digilent USB circuit for programming, hecannt confirm but i guess so as he gives me digilent tools and cable.

Digilent Jtag Driver

Since chipscope was not working fine, thats why i askfor cable compatibility with chipscope.but before i can check your suggestions i used a xilinx platform usb jtag cable and it make me suffer even more.when i initialize the chain by clicking on boundary scan it recognizes two unknown devices in the chain and then a pop upwindow apperas and ask for bit or bsdl fle for the device, it appears twice, once for fpga and once for prom.i was using xilinx ise webpack 9.2i, i have bsdl files for both the devices which i gave to them. But the programming ofdevice failed.i decided to use digilent cable again but more bad luck was waiting me it stops working now as it cannot initialize the chainnow.the adept export spits followingInitializing Scan Chain.Found device ID: ffffffffFound device ID: ffffffffInitialization Failed.now what to do next i am tired of this problem:(. I have manually checked the continuity of hardware. TDI of jtag header to PROM, then PROM to FPGA, then TDO from FPGA to TDO of jtag header.

Also the TCLK AND TMS signal are continous to both the devices. What next?i have a little confusion about the integrity of my FPGA and PROM.

Softimage xsi

Although jtag scan cannot find them but the last program which i downloaded on PROM (when everything was ok), still works. I.e when i restarts my board the FPGA have that logic inside it which it takes from PROM on startup and it works fine. So does that mean both FPGA and PROM are ok?

Is there any case that any one of them or both are damaged and still the logic works? I guess it can never happen that PROM and FPGA are damaged and still the logic works, i need confirmation from you.
